1968 is perhaps the most turbulent year the world has seen globally since World War Two. Starting with the Tet Offensive launched by the North Vietnamese Army and the Viet-Cong against U.S. forces in January, and encompassing the Soviet invasion of Czechoslovakia, the assassinations of Martin Luther King Jr. and Robert F. Kennedy, the social upheavals amongst angry youth from Europe to North America and elsewhere, no-one was unscathed by the year.
To commemorate the year, I will be doing a 12 part series looking at events each month that happened around the world.
In the coming days and weeks I will look at events during this pivotal year. My next post will be about January 1968, looking particularly at the Prague Spring at the Tet Offensive and how they transfixed the world and set the stage for what was to come.
